Warsaw councillors have declared 2019 in the capital, the Year of Marek Edelman, whose 100 birthday anniversary falls this year. The name of one of the leaders of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, however, is missing from the shortlist of proposed patrons of 2019 to be recommended by the Polish Parliament. The Chair of the parliamentary Commission for Culture, representing the ruling PiS party, has been quoting procedural reasons, omitting the fact that Edelman’s name was put forward by the Marek Edelman Centre for Dialog in Łódź as far back as January 2018.
