Public Debates of the Open Republic Association and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre

The 1st Public Debate of The Open Republic Association and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre took place on the 11th of October, 2010. Discussion on the theme “Evil can grow… or how and why are we to react when confronted with hate-speech” was dedicated to the memory of Marek Edelman.

 

On the 14th of March, 2011, 2nd Public Debate of the Open Republic and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre was held. It was dedicated to the memory of Arnold Szyfman, founder of the Polski Theatre. Discussion on “To whom does the public space belong?… or about the necessity of dialogue, which proves indispensable, when we want to live together” took place.

 

The 3rd Public Debate of the Open Republic nad Arnold Szyfman Polish Theatre took place on the 19th of September, 2011. It was dedicated to the memory of Jan Józef Lipski, one of the founders of KOR (the Workers’ Defense Movement/Committee). Discussion on the theme “Two homelands, two patriotisms… or whether patriotism without xenophobia is possible” was held.

 

The 4th Public Debate of the Open Republic and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre was held on the 29th of October, 2012. Discussion on “Is an artist a political person?… or in other words is theatre influential enough to have an impact on the society awarness? “was dedicated to the memory of Halina Mikołajska.

 

The 5th Public Debate of the Open Republic and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre with cooperation with Gaja and Jacek Kuroń Association took place on the 4th of March, 2012. Discussion about “What the Poland Jacek Kuroń dreamt of was like? Wha  the Poland we dream of is like?” was held.

 

The 6th Public Debate of the Open Republic Association and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre was held on the 12th of May, 2012. Proceedings on the theme „On discussion… or Is the one who criticizes my views my enemy?” was dedicated to the memory of one of the founders of the Open Republic, Maciej Geller.

 

The 7th Public Debate of the Open Republic Association and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre was held on the 21th of October, 2013. It was dedicated to the memory of Tadeusz Mazowiecki and entitled „Is Poland a secular state?… or on how to salvage amicable separation of state and Church”.

 

The 8th Public Debate of the Open Republic Association and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre, under the title „Gypsy – Romany – Pole… or about the Gypsies – a little truth, a handful of myths, a few lies”, dedicated to the memory of Krzysztof Krauze and Karol Parno Gierliński, took place on the 26th of May, 2015.

On the 7th of December, 2015, the 9th Public Debate of Open Republic Association and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theater was held. Discussion on “Poland for people!” was dedicated to the memory of Professor Zofia Kuratowska, who died in 1999; she was the Vice-Speaker of the Senate, defender of the harmed ones struggling for the rights of all discriminated people. She devoted all her life “to make all inhabitants of Poland feel well in their country”.

 

The 10th Public Debate of the Open Republic Association and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theater took place on th 26th of April, 2016; its partner was also the Polish PEN Club. The debate was entitled “It is worth being decent …i.e. how to keep being decent in indecent world? and it was dedicated to the memory of Władysław Bartoszewski.

 

On November 9,  2016, the 11th debate of the Open Republic Association and Polski Theater took place in Warsaw. It was entitled “A good teacher – what is he/she like? … or about the role, duties and responsibility of a teacher” and was dedicated to the memory of two outstanding teachers – Anna Radziwiłł and Mirosław Sawicki. They will remain in the grateful memory of their students and colleagues. They were surely good teachers, even though they had to teach in the difficult times of the communist regime.

 

The 12th Public Debate of the Open Republic Association and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre was held on the 15th of May, 2013. Discussion on the theme “Who is the Polish Ukrainian?… or about Ukrainian minority in Poland identity” was dedicated to the memory of Bohdan Osadczuk – an outstanding journalist, a Kremlinologist, a committed publicist involved in Polish-Ukrainian dialogue.

 

The 13th Public Debate of the Open Republic Association and Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre was held on the 15th of May, 2013. Discussion entitled “Can you be a refugee in your own country? or about discrimination and exclusion anew” was dedicated to the memory of Zuzanna Ginczanka, a stranger among her own people, a refugee and a Holocaust victim.

The 14th Public Debate of the Open Republic Association and the Arnold Szyfman Polski Theatre took place on the 8th of May, 2018. Discussion on the theme  “Do we need elites? The roles and responsibilities of the modern middle class”, was dedicated to the memory of prof. Jerzy Jedlicki – an outstanding intellectual, historian of ideas, democratic opposition activist, co-founder of the Open Republic Association, chairman of its Program Council, an honorary chairman of the Management Board – our Master and our Friend.
