“Polish government took a negative position regarding Poland’s participation in the relocation mechanism for refugees and humanitarian corridors. Polish financial aid for Syria is incommensurable to possibilities and needs (…) We, the undersigned protest against cynical use of the drama of war-devastated Syria in the current political game. We consider this situation as very unethical and incompliant with our tradition and Polish reason of state. 20 million Poles located throughout the world are a proof that in difficult times we many times used the solidary help of the world. Now the refugees from the war territories as well as Greeks and Italians, who directly face the refugee crisis, wait for our help in return. We call on the Polish government to stop the hate campaign regarding refugees and effective participation in the humanitarian and development oriented policy of the European Union” – write the members and supporters of the Committee for Defense of Democracy from Wielkopolska region in their appeal to Polish politicians concerning help for refugees. Among the signatories is Professor Krzysztof Podemski – a sociologist from Adam Mickiewicz University, member of the Management Board of Open Republic Association.
