Bedoń Przykościelny is a town located in the Łódź region, in the municipality of Andrespol. On its territory there is a plague, in case of which we had intervened in 2012. Near the church of Our Lady the Queen of Poland, among many others there is the one that is considered shocking and painful to many people. The text on the plague says: ‘BYDGOSZCZ, JEDWABNE, KONIUCHY I NALIBOKI (1.09.1939; 17.09.1939; years 1943-1944). National minorities in Poland: German, Jewish, Ukrainian – by execution and denunciation condemned Polish people to death, Sybir deportation, concentration camp, expulsion from home, country, to forced labour and persecution. For the good of Soviet and German invaders they betrayed Poland. God, teach us how to forgive.’

In 2012 we had intervened with intention to remove the plague or change the sign on it. We had written a letter to the rector of the local parish in Bedoń and to the local authorities of the Adrespol. After no response, we asked for help from the Rada Ochrony Pamięci Walk i Męczeństwa and Rada do spraw Przeciwdziałania Dyskryminacji Rasowej, Ksenofobii I związanej z nimi Nietolerancji, two councils that should have been interested in the case. Also without any success.

Now, in December 2016, we are back on the case. We have received numerous letters from the citizens of Adrespol and the tourists from the nearby route. Once again we have asked the perish in Bedoń Przykościelny, the authorities of Andrespol, Polish Council of Jews and Christians and the Department of National Heritage in The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

It is not the scientific dishonesty about the events in Bydgoszcz, Koniuchy and Naliboki, which is untrue or unproven, makes the worst of the case. It is the context in which Jedwabne was set. Using this nowadays so symbolic city in the way, that puts the victims as murderers and adding to it a request to the God is something unbelievably inappropriate.

We are counting on the addressees of our letters to solve this outrageous and embarrassing matter.
